The shortlist is announced - and as well as the established artists, the likes of Elbow and Turin Brakes are recognised too...

ELBOW, GORILLAZ, PJ HARVEY, RADIOHEAD and SUPER FURRY ANIMALS lead the nominations for this year’s MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE.

The shortlist for this year’s awards has been unveiled this afternoon (July 24) in London. Eclectic as ever, the panel of judges nominated the debut releases from Elbow, ‘Asleep In The Back’ and Turin Brakes, ‘The Optimist LP’, alongside records from more established bands – including Radiohead

‘s ‘Amnesiac’ and Super Furry Animals‘ ‘Rings Around The World’.

Goldfrapp – ‘Felt Mountain’

Super Furry Animals – ‘Rings Around The World’

Radiohead – ‘Amnesiac’

Zero 7 – ‘Simple Things’

Susheela Raman – ‘Salt Rain’

Tom McRae – ‘Tom McRae’

Last year’s award was won by Badly Drawn Boy‘s ‘The Hour Of Bewilderbeast’.
