SOMETHING FOR JOEY

Ronnie Spector will perform at what would have been the singer's 51st birthday...

Friends and family of the late JOEY RAMONE are to keep his memory alive with a second annual Birthday Bash on May 19, it has been announced.

The party, at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, will come on what would have been Ramone’s 51st birthday, and follows last year’s get-together that saw Debbie Harry and members of The Damned and Cheap Trick gather to celebrate his life.

This year, Joey’s one-time idol and long-time friend Ronnie Spector will perform. Spector recorded ‘She Talks To Rainbows’, written by Ramone, on an EP of the same name in 1999.

Proceeds from the show will go to the Lymphoma Research Foundation In Loving Memory of Joey Ramone, set up after the punk godfather’s death. Ramone died on April 15 last year after losing his battle with lymphatic cancer. He was 49.

Meanwhile, a DVD ‘Life’s A Gas – Joey Ramone’s Birthday Bash’ is being slated for release through Sanctuary Records in August. The DVD will feature this year’s party, rare Joey footage, and personal homages from the likes ofMetallica, Joe Strummer and Green Day as well as performances from last year’s event. Proceeds will also go to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
