The Academy Is… pack out tent at Carling: Weekend Reading

But singer William Beckett has a run-in with security

The Academy Is singer William Beckett was almost embroiled in a fight with security during their set at Carling Weekend: Reading last night (August 25).

Speaking to NME.COM, Beckett revealed that he threw a mike stand off the Carling Stage, hitting a security guard in the process.

“He almost beat the shit out of me,” Beckett said. “He was really pissed off. Afterwards I went down and said ‘I’m so sorry’ and he pretty much ignored me.”

Prior to his own band’s set, Beckett was thrilled to see Arcade Fire perform on the Main Stage, saying they “oozed inspiration”, and was excited to be playing at the same time as Main Stage headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers.

“I never thought I’d be saying that I was playing at the same time as them. It blows my mind,” he said.

The Academy Is played:

‘Same Blood’

‘Slow Down’

‘LAX To O’Hare’

‘Black Mamba’

‘The Phrase That Pays’

‘You Might Have Noticed’

‘Bulls In Brooklyn’

‘We’ve Got A Big Mess On Our Hands’

‘Neighbors’

‘Checkmarks’

Having completed a lengthy tour with Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is are currently gearing up for their own headlining tour of the US, kicking off September 5 in Milwaukee.
