Crowds flock to Albert Hammond Jr set at Carling Weekend: Reading

The Strokes man achieves star status as he headlines the Carling Stage

Thousands of fans crowded the Carling stage tonight (August 24) to watch The Strokes star Albert Hammond Jr‘s solo headline set.

Hammond took to the stage at 10.40pm for the final set of the day at the Carling Stage, which today saw performances from Jack Penate,Blood Red Shoes and 1990s who watched the show from the wings.

Opening with ‘Everyone Gets A Star’, Hammond‘s was clearly overwhelmed by the rapturous roar that went up as he started his

performance.

Hammond offered little between-song banter as he made his way through a set that included several covers including The Cars ‘Don’t Cha Stop’, Frank Black‘s ‘Old Black Dawning’, and Guided By Voices ‘Postal Blowfish’.

But the biggest crowd reaction was for material from his debut solo

album ‘Yours To Keep’ particularly ‘101’ and ‘Hard To Live In The City’ which wrapped up the 13-song performance.

The set list ran:

‘Everyone Gets A Star’

‘In Transit’

‘Holiday’

‘In My Room’

‘Bright Young Thing’

‘Call An Ambulance’

‘Old Black Dawning’

‘Blue Skies’

‘Don’t Cha Stop’

‘101’

‘Scared’

‘Postal Blowfish’

‘Hard To Live In The City’
