No completed applications cancelled say organisers

Carling Weekend: Reading And Leeds Festivals organiser Melvyn Benn has spoken out against reports that orders for thousands of tickets for this year’s event were cancelled due to a bookings mix-up.

As previously reported there were some problems with cards being processed, which led to speculation that around 3,000 fans may have missed out despite getting through and booking tickets.

However Benn was confident that the system has worked correctly this year.

“Everybody got a note that said thank for your application and that this isn’t a confirmation, confirmation will be sent within the next three or four hours and some people took that as being that they’d got the tickets,” he told BBC 6 Music. “But they didn’t get the tickets because either they’d inputted the wrong card number or the card didn’t have enough money on it.”

He explained that the situation was not as bad as some people had claimed, and though a number of applications were rejected, confirmed and completed transactions were not cancelled.

This year’s headliners are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Smashing Pumpkins and Razorlight.
