Musicians unite behind new charity effort condemning bear bile farming
Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ozzy Osbourne are among the musicians who are backing a new campaign condemning bear bile farming.
The Animals Asia campaign has a tongue-in-cheek tone and urges people to “let a bear shit in the woods”. In a video teaser below, Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis talks about “bears raving ever day in woods”
The Let A Bear Sh!t In The Woods campaign also features Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon,Moby, Duff McKagan of Guns n’ Roses plus Jackass star Steve-O, and comedy actor Matt Lucas. The eight stars join fellow celebrities such as Ricky Gervais, Olivia Newton John and Jimmy Page as Animals Asia supporters in the fight to end bear bile farming.
Bear bile farming affects over 10,000 bears in China alone with a further 1,200 animals facing similar treatment in Vietnam. The animals are caged for their whole lives and their bile extracted using various painful, invasive techniques, all of which cause massive infection in the bears.
