POLICE HUNT AFTER ASHCROFT GIG ASSAULT

The star sends his sympathy after hearing of the alleged attack at one of his London shows...

Police in LONDON are hunting a vicious attacker who carried out a sexual assault on a young woman at a RICHARD ASHCROFT

show at the weekend.

The alleged attack took place at Brixton Academy last Saturday (November 18). The victim, in her 20s, reported the incident and police were called to the venue just after 9.30pm.

However, the attacker fled into the 4,000 capacity crowd and no arrests were made. Former Verve

frontman Ashcroft

had only just taken to the stage when the attack happened. The victim told police she had scratched the man’s face and this may help point the way using DNA evidence.

On hearing of the traumatic assault, Ashcroft immediately sent out words of sympathy to the girl.

A posting on his website www.richardashcroft.com reads:

“After Saturday night’s blinding show at Brixton, it was a shock to hear about a serious sexual assault that happened earlier in the show.

“We managed to track down the victim by phone and at Richard‘s request we put her and her eleven friends (whose night at Brixton had also been ruined) on the guestlist for the Southampton show.

“On behalf of Richard, Kate and the band we offer our support and best wishes to the victim and hope that she enjoyed Sunday’s gig.”
