Reports say singer will take a year off from her career

Rihanna is planning on taking a 12-month hiatus from her career, according to reports.

MTV says that US TV personality Ryan Seacrest announced on his radio show that sources close to the singer have claimed that she wants to take a year long break from the music industry, before she starts work on recording a new studio album.

“She’s been in this go mode for a while. Seven hit records in seven years,” he told listeners, before hinting that she would take a break once she has finished her ‘Diamonds’ world tour. “Sold-out tours, but sources say after this tour wraps, she plans to take up to a year off to unwind.”

Last month, it was reported that Rihanna was in talks to headline the Pyramid Stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. “She is the perfect choice,” said a source. “Beyonce stole the show two years ago and there’s no reason why Rihanna can’t do the same. She’s got a huge back-catalogue and is undoubtedly the biggest female artist around at the moment bar Adele.”

Earlier this month, meanwhile, the ‘Diamonds’ singer was named as the most streamed female artist of the last six months. She topped a global poll compiled by Spotify, beating Britney Spears and Taylor Swift to the title, with other artists in the Top 10 including Ke$ha, Carly Rae Jepsen, Florence Welch and Nicki Minaj.

Rihanna recently revealed that she will play a special extra show at this year’s Open’er festival in Poland. The festival, which takes place between July 3-6, has confirmed that Rihanna will play an extra gig for people who have four-day festival passes on July 7.

The festival, which will be headlined by Queens of The Stone Age, Blur, Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys, takes place in Gdynia, Poland from July 3-6. For more information visit Opener.pl/en.
