Black Keys, Frank Ocean, Katy Perry and Skrillex both get nods for the September bash
The R&B stars are both up in the coveted video of the year category, for ‘We Found Love’ and ‘Take Care’ respectively. Drake also received nods for best hip-hop video, best male video, best art direction and best cinematography. Rihanna also picked up nominations for best female video, best choreography, best visual effects and best pop video.
Katy Perry came in second place with four VMA nominations, including video of the year for ‘Wide Awake’.
In the best rock video category was Coldplay with ‘Paradise’, The Black Keys with ‘Lonely Boy’, Linkin Park with ‘BURN IT DOWN’, Jack White with ‘Sixteen Saltines’ and Image Dragons with ‘It’s Time’.
A new category – best electronic dance music video – has been added this year, which includes nominations for Calvin Harris for ‘Feel So Close’ and Skrillex ‘First Of The Year (Equinox)’.
Alicia Keys and One Direction are the first acts to be announced to play the show, which will air on September 7 from Los Angeles.
Last years’ winners include Tyler, The Creator for best new artist, while Lady Gaga picked up best female video for ‘Born This Way’ while Foo Fighters picked up best rock video.
