Rihanna scotches rumours of Whitney Houston biopic role

But singer says that the late star was an inspiration in her singing career

Rihanna has scotched rumours that she will portray Whitney Houston in a biopic of her life.

Earlier this year (February 28), it was reported that the ‘Talk That Talk’ star was being lined up to play Houston in a Hollywood flick, although a representative for the late singer subsequently said there was “no truth” to the reports.

Now Rihanna has dismissed the claims herself, telling MTV News:

[It was] just rumours. I never heard anything about that.

She went on to speak of her admiration for Houston and named ‘I Will Always Love You’ as her favourite song of all time, adding: “It was really inspiring, and it made me develop a passion for music, so really, she’s partly responsible for me being here in this industry.”

Even if the singer won’t be portraying Houston on the big screen, her acting career is still continuing to gather pace. After her role in this year’s explosion-fest Battleship, she the part of the villain in the new installment of The Fast And The Furious. The film is set to be shot over the summer months and will be set in the UK this time, with the majority of scenes likely to be filmed in London and Southend.

Rihanna’s only UK shows of 2012 will both take place in London, at Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend and Wireless Festival later this year.
