Singer and 'X Factor' judge admits first relationship was "crazy" in retrospect
Rita Ora has opened up about dating a man who was 26 while she was just 14.
The singer and X Factor judge, who is now 24, talked about the relationship in a 2013 interview which has been found and published in a new unauthorised biography. Douglas Wight and Jennifer Wiley’s Hot Right Now was serialised in The Sun this weekend.
Speaking to Lifetime TV, Ora explained the relationship. “I was fourteen when I started, when I got my first relationship with a guy,” Ora said. “I would say (he was) about 26, and you have to remember I hadn’t had a relationship before then at all.”
“It’s child abuse, really, isn’t it?”, Ora said about her first relationship. However, Ora strenuously denied the suggestion that she was made to do anything against her will and said the relationship made her feel “great”. At one point, Ora said: “I was almost obsessed with having a man feel like he wants me.”
Despite admitting that the relationship now looks “crazy”, Ora denied that she suffered anything she would deem abuse. “I don’t want to say that I suffered it, because I wanted it. I don’t want to say that I was forced to do it,” she said. “I don’t want people to think that I was forced to do it. I don’t want people to think I was abused as a kid but I was definitely more mature than I should have been at 14.”
Earlier this year Ora appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s US chat show to perform an Internet-themed novelty tune called ‘The Clickbait Song’.
The pop singer sang a series of real-life online headlines to the tune of her latest single ‘Body On Me’. It included the lyrics: “A baby re-enacts a Bruce Lee fight/This one strange trick can reduce cellulite”.
