URE OPTIMISTIC

Dionne Warwick? Gladys Knight? Elton John? Robbie Williams?...

MIDGE URE is still hoping to attract a major headliner to CARDIFF for his ‘SHOWTIME AT THE STADIUM’ charity gig at the 60,000-capacity MILLENNIUM STADIUM.

The event – a benefit for the Red Hot and AIDS charity – takes place on October 20, but ticket sales are rumoured to have plateaued at a few thousand.

But the former Ultravox star, who helped to organise the legendary Live Aid concert in 1985, has approached both Dionne Warwick and Gladys Knight. And he’s got his sights set on Elton John and Robbie Williams, too.

Elton John is no longer going to the Far East and Robbie Williams was meant to be on a plane to Australia on the day of the show, but I don’t think he’s going now. So it opens a lot of potential for us.

“We’ll be getting back in touch with a lot of people and keeping our fingers crossed that they’ll be able to make it,” he told the South Wales Echo.

S Club 7 are the latest band to join the line-up, which also includes A1, Damage, Atomic Kitten, Petula Clark and Charlotte Church.
