Pop king Robbie Williams and dance diva Sonique lead the nominations...

Robbie Williams and SONIQUE emerged as the two frontrunners among the nominees for the MTV EUROPE AWARDS, which have been announced in LONDON this morning (October 2).

Both artists have notched up four nominations: Robbie is in the running for Best Male Artist, Best Pop Act, Best Song (for ‘Rock DJ’) and Best UK And Ireland Act. Sonique, meanwhile, is up for Best New Act, Best Dance Act, Best Song (for ‘Feel So Good’) and Best UK And Ireland Act.

Madonna, Britney Spears and Mel C – who was present at this morning’s announcement – line up against Eminem, Bon Jovi and Travis, all of whom have three nominations each. The nominations are in the following categories: Madonna – Best Female, Best Dance Act, Best Song (‘Music’) Britney Spears – Best Pop Act, Best Female, Best Song (‘Oops I Did It Again!’) Mel C – Best New Act, Best Female, Best Song (‘Never Be The Same Again’) Eminem – Best Album (‘The Marshall Mathers LP’), Best Male, Best Hip Hop Act Bon Jovi – Best Album (‘Crush’), Best Group, Best Rock Act Travis – Best Album (‘The Man Who’), Best Group, Best UK And Ireland Act

Speaking at the launch ceremony this morning, Mel C joked that her nominations would spark new rumours. “As a solo artist, what I’m doing is very different to my previous work,” she said of the nomination for Best New Act.

This year sees the addition of a new award, for Best Act From Poland.

In addition to Moby and U2, who had already been revealed as appearing at the Awards ceremony in Stockholm on November 16, other acts performing live will be Robbie Williams, Ronan Keating, Spice Girls, who will perform their new single ‘Holler Holler/Let Love Lead The Way’ (released on October 23 through Virgin), Backstreet Boys, Wyclef Jean, who was present at the Awards launch this morning, and Bomfunk MCs, as well as German act Guano Apes.

Stars presenting gongs will include Alice Cooper, Bruce Dickinson, The Cardigans, Kelis and Moloko.
