Smash Mouth have had to pull out of their opening slot on the Robbie Williams tour, nme.com can reveal.

The Californian outfit cancelled their UK visit in order to finish recording the as yet untitled follow-up to 1999’s ‘Astro Lounge’.

According to a spokesperson for the band, the tour would have been too costly an undertaking to embark upon in getting the band to Britain, and also in studio time they would have missed.

Smash Mouth have been replaced on the tour by former Kula Shaker frontman Crispian Mills.
