Ex-Take That star says remarks were 'a joke'

Robbie Williams has apologised for saying that he had slept with four members of The Spice Girls.

The former Take That member, who has made a controversial comeback with new single ‘Party Like A Russian’, was rumoured to have dated Geri Halliwell in 2001.

Speaking on Australian radio’s Nova 96.9, Williams retracted previous claims that he had sex with “four out of five” members of the girl group.

“I told a joke a long time ago and it sort of got out of hand,” he said. “On one particular [Take That] tour before [‘Back For Good’] I introduced it by saying ‘I am very fortunate to have been in Take That and 4 out of 5 of the Spice Girls.’ That was my intro to the song and it was a joke and the joke went too far.”

“I would like to apologise to all the Spice Girls involved and their husbands and boyfriends. I know a few husbands and boyfriends weren’t too happy with the joke,” he added.

Robbie Williams’ new album ‘The Heavy Entertainment Show’ is out on November 4. It features co-writes with Brandon Flowers, John Grant, Ed Sheeran and Williams’ longtime writing partner Guy Chambers.

Williams told Beats 1 of the album: “I was musing over the phrase ‘light entertainment’ – all the huge TV shows from when I was a kid, 30 million people watching them, this huge shared experience of these moments called light entertainment.”

“Sometimes it can be levelled at people in a bad way, but for me that’s heavy entertainment. That’s what I’m hoping to do with this album – to have a shared experience with millions of people through the medium of light entertainment, but on steroids.”
