Royal Blood postpone three shows on UK tour

Gigs in Portsmouth, Oxford and Bristol have been rearranged for December and January

Royal Blood have been forced to postpone shows in Portsmouth, Oxford and Bristol, with singer Mike Kerr currently suffering from “severe tonsillitis”.

The Brighton band were scheduled to play Portsmouth this evening (November 10), with dates later this week planned in Oxford (November 11) and Bristol (November 12), which have now been pulled.

A press release states: “Mike has been diagnosed with severe tonsillitis and further to medical advice is not well enough to perform.” The shows have been rescheduled for December 19 (Bristol Bierkeller), January 7, 2015 (Portsmouth Pyramids) and January 8 (Oxford O2 Academy). All tickets remain valid for these shows.

Tickets for Royal Blood’s tour sold out in a matter of minutes in September.

The band reached Number One with their self-titled debut in August. The first-week sales figures made it the fastest-selling rock debut album since Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ self-titled release in 2011.

Speaking to NME in last week’s issue, which is currently on newsstands and available digitally, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl said that the band’s album was “so encouraging” for rock music.

“I saw some live footage of them, and I was so excited to see a band that was heavy, had riffs, had songs, and could really perform, and an audience that was genuinely excited to watch them play,” said Grohl.

And then someone tells me that the album went to number one, and for another guy with a guitar to see another guy with a guitar getting the number one record, it’s so encouraging. Not that I think that rock’n’roll is the only type of music, but in this day and age it’s good to see it fucking show it’s face now and then. And it’s a good record, I’m excited about that.”
