Brighton duo narrowly ahead of Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran at today's midway point

Royal Blood look set for a second week at Number One on the Official UK Albums Chart with their self-titled debut.

The album is currently ahead of albums by Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith at today’s midweek stage (September 3). The final chart placings will be revealed on BBC Radio 1 on Sunday (September 7).

The Brighton duo sold nearly 66,000 copies of their eponymous record on its way to the top spot following its release on August 25. The first-week figures make it the highest-selling rock debut since Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ self-titled release in 2011.

Elsewhere in the Official Albums Chart, Maroon 5 currently have this week’s highest new entry with their new album ‘V’ entering at Number Four, while The Pierces are new in at Number 5. Other new entries are due from Lonely The Brave (11), Johnny Winters (25) and Pulled Apart By Horses (27).

Meanwhile, the Number One spot on the Official Singles Chart could go to Duke Dumont. Should the British producer hold on to his midweek spot at with ‘Won’t Look Back’ it would represent his third chart topper in a row following 2013’s ‘Need U (100%)’ and ‘I Got U’, released earlier this year.

Further new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart at the midweek stage come from The Script (2), G.R.L. (4), Oliver Dollar and Jimi Jules (12) and Ferreck Dawn (29).
