'RTJ2' was originally intended for release on Monday (October 27)
Rap duo Run The Jewels have released their free new album online days before it was originally expected.
‘Run The Jewels 2’ is the second full-length to be released by rappers El-P and Killer Mike and was previously slated for release on Monday (October 27). The 11-track record features collaborations with Rage Against The Machine’s Zack De La Rocha and Blink-182’s Travis Barker, among others.
Meanwhile, Run The Jewels member El-P is said to be “auditioning cats” for the cat-based version of the act’s new album, entitled ‘Meow The Jewels’.
Killer Mike and El-P promised to release a version of ‘Run The Jewels 2′ remixed only with cat sounds if fans raised enough money via Kickstarter. With their £24,500 ($45,100) goal met, the pair have now enlisted the likes of Portishead’s Geoff Barrow and Zola Jesus to help with the project.
Run The Jewels appeared in last week’s NME, discussing what it’s like to release a new album during such a period of political unrest in America. Killer Mike said: “Repping the shit that we rep and the way that we do isn’t grandiose because this is what rap is supposed to do. We’re being told to shut the fuck up on a national scale”.
El-P told NME that the sound of ‘RTJ2’ as “meaner, darker, more pointed”.
