Singer made quip during appearance on French TV

Sam Smith has joked that meeting Rihanna ‘nearly turned me straight’.

The singer was speaking during an appearance on French television’s ‘Le Grand Journal’, which is hosted by Antoine de Caunes, best known in the UK as the host and co-creator of long-running Channel 4 show Eurotrash.

When shown a recently-taken photograph of Rihanna sitting on his lap, Smith said: “I love Rihanna. I actually love her. She nearly turned me straight the night I met her.” He also went on to perform the track ‘I’m Not the Only One’. Click below to watch.

Rihanna recently admitted that she wants to work with Smith, telling The Sun, “He is so talented. It would be amazing to work with him.”

The ‘Rude Boy’ performer added: “No matter how busy we are, when two artists want to work together they make it happen. He is such a beautiful songwriter, but more important than that, he is an absolutely beautiful person, and that comes across in his songs.”

Rihanna is currently preparing to release her forthcoming eighth studio LP, which will likely feature ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’, as well as the Paul McCartney and Kanye West collaboration ‘FourFiveSeconds’.
