Brit Awards Critic Choice winner Sam Smith tops Official UK Singles Chart

Meanwhile, Bastille return to Official UK Albums Chart Number One

Sam Smith has debuted in at Number One in the Official UK Singles Chart with ‘Money On My Mind’.

This makes him the first Brits Critic Choice winner to have a debut single enter in at the top of the Official Singles Chart. In doing so, Smith has knocked Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ down to Number Three, reports the Official Charts Company.

Speaking about the achievement, Smith said: “It feels unbelievable, man! It’s completely overwhelming and I don’t actually know what to do with myself! It feels amazing. When La La La went to Number 1, I wrote quite a lot of that song and it was kind of just as much mine as it was Naughty Boy’s, but having my own song at Number 1 is just absolutely incredible.”

In the Official UK Albums Chart, Brit Awards winners Bastille return to Number One with their debut album ‘Bad Blood’. Arctic Monkeys fifth album is also back in the Top 10 at Number Two. ‘AM’ picked up the Album of the Year gong at the Brit Awards.

Elsewhere, Disclosure‘s ‘Settle’ has rocketed up the chart, going from Number 32 to Number Three, Ellie Goulding’s ‘Halcyon’ is at Number Four and Rudimental’s ‘Home’ completes this week’s Official UK Albums Chart Top 5.
