A LITTLE BIT OF….COMPETITION!

Can the plucky tradesman hold on to the top slot in the UK singles chart? He's got some stiff competition...

SAMANTHA MUMBA and DJ OTZI lead this week’s new releases in an attempt to knock BOB THE BUILDER from the top of the UK singles chart.

As predicted on NME.COM, yesterday (September 9), Bob ‘s cover of ‘Mambo No. 5′ beat Supermen Lovers’ ‘Starlight’ to the top of the charts in one of the closest chart battles of the year.

Today (September 10), a number of groups have released records in an attempt to knock the plucky builder from the top spot. The Chemical Brothers release ‘It Began In Afrika’, the first track from their currently untitled fourth album, Samantha Mumba releases ‘Baby Come On Over’ and DJ Otzi, who has already scored Number One singles in Austria and Ireland, attempts to crack the UK with his single ‘Hey Baby’.

A chart expert expected all three to do well, but said it was too early to predict chart placings. She commented: “The midweek charts are announced Tuesday so that will give a good indicator.”

Other new releases today come from Dido, who releases ‘Hunter’, rapper Lil’ Kim, who releases his cover of the Phil Collins staple ‘In The Air Tonight’ and Manic Street Preachers, who release their new single ‘Let Robeson Sing’.
