Simian Mobile Disco explain unusual sleeve art

The band go spoon crazy

Simian Mobile Disco have explained the thinking behind the unusual sleeve art for their album ’Attack Decay Sustain Release’.

The cover, which sees the band’s name spelt out in spoons, took place over two days at Mellow Farm in West Sussex and involved 2,500 spoons.

The idea came from members James Ford and James Shaw who, according to a statement, “saw an abstract connection between spoons as objects possessed of a sense of utility and everydayness, but equally a certain mysterious ‘spoony’ aesthetic”.

The LP is released on June 4.

The band have also launched a competition to allow them to play at a fan’s house.

”SMD are playing at my house” will see the band playing a two-hour set at the winning fan’s dwellings.

Fans can enter via simianmobiledisco.co.uk and have to put in 100 words why they should play at their house.
