Idris Elba raps about Stringer Bell on Skepta’s ‘Shutdown’ remix – listen

'The Wire' and 'Luther' actor appears on new version of grime MC's latest single

Actor Idris Elba appears on the official remix of Skepta‘s new single ‘Shutdown’.

The remix of the song, which was released officially on April 26, can be heard below.

The track sees Elba namecheck Stringer Bell, the character he played in US TV series The Wire as he raps: “See that Wire? Shut it down/Ain’t nobody else selling brown/Ain’t nobody else Stringer Bell/Boy from the East End did well.”

UK grime MC Skepta announced the first big name guest during a recent radio interview. At the time he also said that the remix would feature another well-known rapper alongside Elba.

Idris Elba, who has appeared in the Academy Award-nominated Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, revealed that he is working on an album inspired by his Luther character.

Skepta recently shared the video for ‘Shutdown’. The clip was directed by FKA Twigs collaborator Grace LaDoja, while the song features a sample of a viewer responding to the MC’s appearance at the 2015 Brit Awards with Kanye West, calling it “aggressive” and “intimidating”.

Earlier this year, it was rumoured that West and Skepta were in the studio together.
