DJ says he's 'more excited than ever to make music again'
Skrillex has claimed that he has “too many songs to even know what to do with”.
In an interview with Billboard, the producer said that he had an excess of new material and was “more excited than ever to make music again”.
Speaking shortly after releasing his new three-track EP, titled ‘Leaving’, on YouTube earlier this week (January 3), Skrillex discussed his future plans to work on a new record and revealed:
I have so much music. I have too many songs to even know what to do with.
He added: “I just always make music anyway… But I want to make a record. I just haven’t had enough time to really sit down and idle myself and clear my mind and go, ‘OK, what’s the next thing I want to say? How’s it different from what I said before?’ and think of all these things.
“I have so much inside me, so many ideas, I’m more excited than ever to make music again, ’cause I haven’t done that for, like, two years.”
However, the DJ admitted that he wasn’t sure if the new release would be another EP similar to his 2010 release ‘Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites’ and 2011’s ‘Bangarang’, or if he would instead make his first debut full-length album. He said: “‘Bangarang’, 70 per cent of that was made on the road, so this will be the first time since ‘Scary Monsters…’ where I’ll be able to sit down in a studio environment to make something. It could be the best three songs I’ve ever made. It could be the best 20 songs I’ve ever made. I don’t know what it’s gonna be yet.”
Skrillex’s ‘Leaving’ EP features the tracks ‘Leaving’, ‘Scary Bolly Dub’ and ‘The Reason’, which you can listen to by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking. He also recently unveiled a new video for ‘Summit’, the track he made with ex-girlfriend Ellie Goulding. Scroll down to watch the video.
Last year, Skrillex and Goulding ended their relationship after nine months together. Goulding blamed the split on the long-distance nature of the relationship, as Goulding is based in London whilst Skrillex lives in the United States. She also claimed that despite breaking up, the pair are still on good terms and will continue to work with each other, revealing: “We’re even going to make music together next year . Our own little project which will be released.”
