Slipknot’s Corey Taylor ‘could have been paralysed’ by spine injury

Singer "ignored the symptoms" after injury

Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor could have been paralysed, after his doctor discovered the spinal injury that required emergency treatment.

The Slipknot frontman had broken his neck without knowing it, and dismissed increasing movement problems as a result of getting older.

Speaking to Revolver, Taylor said he behaved like a “fucking idiot” by ignoring the symptoms.

“I was losing strength on my right side. My balance was screwed. The last two or three years have been weird for me, physically. But you get to a certain point where you think it’s just because you’re getting older.

“My doctor sent me to a specialist, and he was like, ‘We need to do surgery right now.’ Me being me, I was like, ‘Is there any way we can reschedule this for after the tour?’ He’s like, ‘No.’

“He said my spinal cord injury was 20 times worse than what he’s seen with UFC fighters. He pulled up the MRI and goes, ‘You see that? That’s really, really bad – that shouldn’t even be growing like that.”

Taylor also recently revealed that his band had a competition with Marilyn Manson to freak the other act out. The two acts toured together as part of Ozzfest in 2001, with Taylor now describing how he once drank his own vomit to gross out Manson.

“I was pretty lit, pretty much for that whole tour,” Taylor told Rolling Stone. “I do remember throwing up in a cup and drinking it in front of Manson and he kind of freaked out. He didn’t really know how to take it.”

“And then he ran into our dressing room in tighty-whitey underwear and kind of danced for us and kind of ran back out, and we were like, ‘What the fuck just happened?'”
