Smashing Pumpkins share first photo of band with new bassist

Smashing Pumpkins have shared the first photo of their latest reunion line-up featuring new bassist, Jack Bates.

Billy Corgan’s band reunited with most of its ‘classic’ original line-up earlier this year, with guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin joining Corgan and long-term collaborator Jeff Schroeder. Original bassist D’Arcy Wretzky is not involved however, with a bitter feud unfolding between her and the frontman.

Back in March, the band also revealed that previous touring member Jack Bates (who has also performed in New Order/Joy Division legend Peter Hook’s band) would be joining them on bass on their upcoming tour. Now, Iha has shared a photo of their latest incarnation (sans Schroeder) while in rehearsals for their upcoming world tour.

It seems highly unlikely that he band will ever reunite with Wretzky, after Corgan revealed that her “bridge was forever burned“.

Meanwhile, the months ahead will be busy for Pumpkins fans. The band recently shared a teaser photo from the music video of their comeback single ‘Solara‘. The track is taken from three EPs of new material produced by Rick Rubin, and believed to be dropped in the weeks ahead.

The eight tracks are titled ‘Alienation’, ‘Travels’, ‘Silvery Sometimes’, ‘Solara’, ‘With Sympathy’, ‘Marchin’ On’, ‘Knights of Malta’, ‘Seek And You Shall Destroy’. The band’s upcoming tour meanwhile, will focus on material from the Pumpkins’ first five albums, and kicks off on July 12 in Arizona after an intimate show for fans next month recreating their iconic video for ‘1979‘.

It is hoped that UK and European tour dates will be announced shortly.
