Snoop Dogg becomes Snoopzilla for funk project

The rapper has joined up with Dâm-Funk for 7 Days Of Funk

Snoop Dogg has revealed that his next musical project will see him working under the name Snoopzilla.

The rapper, who recently changed his name to Snoop Lion after converting to Rastafarianism and reinventing himself as a reggae artist, releasing ‘Reincarnated‘, will now put out a funk record with Dâm-Funk under the band name 7 Days Of Funk. For the project, Snoop will call himself Snoopzilla, which sees him paying tribute to funk bassist Bootsy Collins, who referred to himself as Bootzilla, reports Consequence Of Sound.

7 Days Of Funk will release their debut, self-titled album on December 10 on the Stones Throw label. Speaking about the project, Snoop commented: “We’re the babies of the Mothership. I’ve had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dâm-Funk is cold. He’s keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him.” Listen to their track ‘Faden Away’ below:

In an interview with Q magazine earlier this year, Snoop said that he wanted to be inaugurated into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. He said:

“I wanna go to the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. And the only way I can do that is if I do 25 years of great music non-stop. So I’ve got two more years to go. That’s my goal.” Speaking to NME, Snoop said he was unsure of his musical direction after the release of ‘Reincarnated’, stating he was unlikely to return to Jamaica to make a new album as he had done with his reggae debut.
