IRS file a federal tax lien against the rapper
Snoop Dogg has been hit with a federal tax lien for unpaid bills of just under $550,000.
The rapper, who also goes by the name of Snoop Lion, owes the IRS for unpaid tax bills totalling $546,270.29. According to documents seen by US gossip website TMZ, Snoop owes for two separate years, 2009 ($101,952.44) and 2011 ($444,317.85).
This isn’t the first time the rapper has been in trouble with the IRS for unpaid tax bills. In 2008, Snoop shelled out $476,000 in back taxes to the US government tax office after he was served a notice.
If Snoop fails to pay up the requested amount he could potentially face federal charges for tax evasion. Last year, hip-hop star Fat Joe pleaded guilty to tax evasion. The rapper could face up to two years in prison, when sentencing is issued in April. Fat Joe, whose real name is Joseph Cartagena, faced charges of failing to pay income tax on millions of dollars he earned in 2007 and 2008.
