Snow Patrol: ‘We’ve already written our next album’

Gary Lightbody says seventh LP and follow-up to 'Fallen Empires' is already finished

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has revealed that the band have already finished writing their seventh studio album.

The band aren’t set to release their sixth studio LP ‘Fallen Empires’ until November, but in an interview with BBC Radio 2, the singer claimed that they had already written its follow-up.

He also described ‘Fallen Empires’ as the band’s best album so far, and suggested that the bouts of writers block he had experienced during making the LP had helped him “write better songs”.

He said:

We’ve already written the next album. The last track on ‘Fallen Empires’ is going to be ‘Broken Bottles Form A Star (Prelude)’ and that will be the first track on the next album.

When talking about the writing process for ‘Fallen Empires’, meanwhile, he added:

It’s the longest album we’ve ever made by far but also the best. We took our time and I also had some bouts of writer’s block. It’s the first time it’s happened for such a long time. I’ve had days when I haven’t been able to write. Since 2009 I’ve gone through three writer’s blocks but I’m glad because the results are great afterwards. They probably made me write better songs.

Snow Patrol posted their comeback single ‘Called Out In The Dark’ online last month. The song will be released as both a single track and as part of an EP on September 4.
