SO SOLID CREW member DARREN WEIR has escaped a jail sentence for breaking the jaw of a teenage fan who spurned his sexual advances.
Weir, who admitted during a hearing earlier this week to punching the girl, causing grevious bodily harm, walked from Cardiff Crown Court this afternoon (October 19) after being ordered to pay the victim £3,500 compensation, a fine of £1,500 and £500 in prosecution costs.
The court heard how the then 15-year-old victim was struck so hard by Weir that her jaw was broken in two places. Surgeons had to insert three metal plates to repair it.
Judge Christopher Llewellyn-Jones told Weir: “You are a young man on the brink of a career which may be extremely successful – we do not know. I am satisfied on the evidence that a prison sentence would undoubtedly have a significant, adverse effect.”
The attack happened in a Cardiff hotel on December 27 last year following a So Solid Crew show in the city. The court was also told that Weir, who records under the name Skat D, had a previous conviction for actual bodily harm after assaulting a bus conductor in March 1999.
