Spotify joins forces with Facebook

A host of other music streaming and video sites are involved with the new service

Spotify is one of the music streaming sites who have partnered with Facebook in a new initiative set up by the social networking site.

The new features will give users access to over 15 million songs, and will also allow them to see what tracks are trending on the site, as well as letting users share music with friends. The service is provided for free.

The new service was announced at the F8 developers conference today (September 22) in San Francisco and as well as Spotify, Rhapsody, SoundCloud, Earbits, Vevo, Slacker Radio and Songza are also listed as launch partners.

Spotify recently launched in the US and has over two million paying subscribers. Spotify founder Daniel Ek revealed the plans at the conference and explained the service in detail at Spotify.com. Calling the new service the “soundtrack to your social life”, he wrote:

You’ll now start seeing new music posts and play buttons all over your newsfeeds. Hit a play button and the music starts. Right there. Spotify fires up to give you a new soundtrack to your social life. Check out your new Music Dashboard and your real-time ticker to discover the music that’s trending with your friends.
