St Vincent introduces 11-year-old to David Bowie and New Order with specially-made mixtape – listen

Annie Clark premiered her new Beats 1 radio show 'St. Vincent’s Mixtape Delivery Service' on Wednesday (July 1)

St Vincent made a mixtape for an 11 year old fan, marking her first show on Apple Music’s new Beats 1 radio station.

Apple Music and Beats 1 launched on Tuesday (June 30), with former Radio 1 host Zane Lowe kicking things off by playing the likes of Manchester band Spring King, Beck’s new single ‘Dreams’, ‘Shutdown’ by Skepta and ‘Gosh’ by Jamie xx.

The Beats 1 radio show St. Vincent’s Mixtape Delivery Service will be hosted by the singer Annie Clark every week, with its first instalment airing on Wednesday (July 1). It sees Clark making a mixtape for a different fan each week.

The first episode saw Clark assembling a mix for a 11-year-old called Piper, who cited her favourite bands as Purity Ring and Chvrches. Clark chose the likes of David Bowie, New Order, Bjork, Talking Heads and more, artists Clark “think[s] she’ll love, but probably has missed because she’s 11”.

Meanwhile, St Vincent recently appeared on a new track by the Chemical Brothers, titled ‘Under Neon Lights’. The song will appear on the duo’s new album ‘Born In The Echoes’, out on July 17.

St Vincent released her self-titled fourth album in 2014, NME’s Number One album of that year. The record followed Clark’s previous albums ‘Marry Me’ (2007), ‘Actor’ (2009), ‘Strange Mercy’ (2011) and her collaborative album with David Byrne ‘Love This Giant’ in 2012.
