St Vincent explains how she wrote ‘Teenage Talk’ – watch

Track appears on the deluxe edition of the singer's self-titled 2014 album

St Vincent stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this week to perform her latest song ‘Teenage Talk’, and in an interview released exclusively to YouTube by the late night chat show, she also took the time to explain where the song came from. Click above to watch.

According to the singer, whose real name is Annie Clark, ‘Teenage Talk’ was penned in Austin, Texas, which sparked memories of growing up in Dallas and her close group of highschool friends.

“I have a whole lot of love for Texas still, you know, roots, and friends, family, connections; [the song] was reminding me of my best friends in my youth,” said Clark. “It was incredibly formative. I feel super, super blessed – which is not a word I even use – to have met them in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas and to have forged such a strong bond. We were kind of outsiders, and we had to find our way through the malaise of suburban Texas childhood.”
