St Vincent covers ‘Groove Is In The Heart’ and plays backing drums for Jenny Lewis – watch

The pair were performing at Trans-Pecos Festival 2015 last week

St Vincent and Jenny Lewis teamed up to cover Deee-Lite’s 1990 disco classic ‘Groove Is In The Heart’ at a festival in Texas.

Lewis was playing a slot at Trans-Pecos Festival Of Music And Love in Marfa, Texas last week (September 24) – where St Vincent, aka Annie Clark, joined her to play backing drums and guitar, and to supply vocals.

As well as tackling ‘Groove Is In The Heart’, the pair played a number of Lewis’ songs including ‘Just One Of The Guys’ and ‘Girl On Girl’, while Clark played her own track ‘Cheerleader’.

Annie Clark grew up in Dallas, Texas, and recorded much of her music there. In the documentary, filmed by Alan Del Rio Ortiz for Nowness, Clarke talks about her home and music, as shots of Texas are interspersed with concert recordings.

“I think there are things that you just can’t explain about a place,” Clark says in the blurb accompanying the footage. “Music is one of those things that the more you give to it, the more you get back from it.”

The footage sees Clark making her way through fields of cows and crops in a Jeep, before taking to the fields naked, saying, “You just exist, which is sometimes kind of scary, but you just be here.”
