Drummer's wife Rachel campaigns for stronger health warnings on bottles of spirits

Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable died while on a diet of spirits, his widow Rachel has said.

Cable passed away last June after a three-day binge, choking to death on his own vomit.

Now Rachel Cable is attempting to warn the public of the dangers of drinking spirits, reports the Daily Record. Her late husband had been shunning more fattening drinks to try and get fit for gigging with his band Killing For Company.

Stuart was getting ready for a festival,” she explained. “All the guys were getting gig fit.”

She added: “There are diets that say a vodka is better than half a lager because it is lower in calories. Stuart had a large amount of spirits that night and that took its toll on him.

“Spirits are so strong that people don’t realise what they are doing to them.”

Rachel is now campaigning for there to be stronger warnings about the strength of drinks on spirit bottles. “People need to be aware that spirits can lead to deaths,” she said.

Stuart Cable was 40 when he died.
