Original Sugababes line-up to release album next year

Siobhan Donaghy says ‘I know the exact date’

The original Sugababes line-up are to release their comeback album in 2017.

Singer Siobhan Donaghy made the claim about what would be the first album by any Sugababes line-up since 2010’s ‘Sweet 7’.

Donaghy told Wandsworth Radio at London Pride festival: “Sugababes have got a record coming out next year. I can’t tell you the exact date. I know, but I can’t tell you. It’s next year.”

Donaghy joined Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan in reforming the original Sugababes line-up in 2012 under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan. Since then, they have released just one single, 2013’s ‘Flatline’, as well as guesting on Blood Orange’s remix of ‘Entertainment’ by Phoenix.

Referring to their two-year silence, Donaghy said: “We’ve been back and then there was a bit of a break. But we’re working on it again, so it’s exciting.”

The original line-up released the album ‘One Touch’ in 2000, featuring the singles ‘Overload’ and ‘Run For Cover’, before Donaghy quit. She released solo albums ‘Revolution In Me’ and ‘Ghosts’.

Donaghy was replaced by Heidi Range, with Sugababes then enjoying hits including ‘Freak Like Me’ and ‘Round Round’ before Buena left in 2005, replaced by Amelle Berrabah. Buchanan, the only surviving original member, left in 2009 to be replaced by Jade Ewen.

Since reforming as Mutya Keisha Siobhan, there have been several reports that the original trio would try to reclaim the Sugababes name. It is unclear whether these have now been settled, though Donaghy’s use of the name in the new interview would suggest as much.
