Sugababes’ Heidi Range speaks out about the group’s name row

Singer says 'there's been no conversations about who owns the name'

SugababesHeidi Range has spoken out about Mutya Buena’s application to own the Sugababes name.

Talking to BBC Newsbeat at the launch of Sugababes‘ new album ‘Sweet 7’, Range said she was not expecting Buena‘s application to come to anything.

“Our record company own the name Sugababes,” Range explained. “So there’s no conversations about who owns the name.”

She added: “I signed to Universal Records eight-and-a-half years ago with Mutya [Buena] and Keisha [Buchanan] as the Sugababes, so we’ve still got the name.”

As previously reported, Buena’s legal team are hopeful that her registration with the European Trademarks Authority will go through, meaning she will own the rights to use the Sugababes name on goods such as CDs, DVDs and books.

Meanwhile, the current line-up of Sugababes, which now includes Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen, release new album ‘Sweet 7’ on March 15.
