This year's bash takes place in Bristol...

Supergrass, JAMES BROWN, Beta Band and Roni Size are amongst the acts confirmed for a three-day ESSENTIAL FESTIVAL in BRISTOL.

The first Essential event of 2002 has been confirmed to take place at Ashton Court in Bristol over the May Day bank holiday weekend (May 4-6).

The event will be split in to three separate days, the first being ‘Dance’, then ‘Rock’ and finally ‘Roots’.

At the ‘Dance’ day (May 4), acts confirmed include a DJ set from Orbital‘s Phil Hartnoll, Royksopp, Roni Size, Adam F, Richie Hawtin and Judge Jules, amongst others.

The ‘Rock’ day (May 5) features Supergrass, Beta Band, Shed Seven, Therapy? and Six By Seven, amongst others, while the ‘Roots’ day includes appearances by James Brown, De La Soul, Asian Dub Foundation, Lee Perry and Courtney Pine.

Tickets are priced £35 per day and go on sale tomorrow (February 23) in Bristol, and nationwide in two weeks. Camping at the event will not be available.
