Gaz, Danny and Mickey film TV ad for Radio 1...

Supergrass are the stars of a new TV advert for Radio 1.

The advert debuted on TV last week and features the band practising in London’s Abbey Road Studios.

Supergrass are shown playing ‘Moving’, from their current album ‘Supergrass’, before ditching their guitars for kazoos, tubas and coconuts and playing “a discordant instrumental that’s plainly out of keeping with the haunting lyrics that made the song (‘Moving’) famous”, according to a BBC spokesperson.

The advertisement ends with a message from Radio 1 which states: “If Radio 1 didn’t have a mission to play good, inspirational music, neither would the hundreds of bands that grew up listening to it.”

Meanwhile, Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey has revealed the band’s new material is taking a harder, rockier direction.

Speaking backstage at the band’s final date of their European tour in Cologne (November 19), he told NME:

“I think we might just fucking rock out and do like a really live-sounding, Stooges-y sort of album. That’s what the idea is, anyway.”
