Surfer Blood guitarist diagnosed with cancer

Band help with fundraising for Thomas Fekete who is battling rare form of the disease

Surfer Blood are raising funds to help guitarist Thomas Fekete, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Fekete, pictured above on the far left alongside his bandmates, is currently undergoing treatment for a rare form of cancer and had a large tumour removed from his abdomen earlier this year. However, the cancer has subsequently spread to his spine and lungs.

A GoFundMe page set up by Fekete is open for fans wishing to donate money toward his treatment. Fekete is undergoing an alternative treatment plan in addition to chemotherapy and his health insurance does not cover the full amount needed to pay for this.

In a message on the GoFundMe page, Fekete explains how: “any bit of help would be massive for me, as I’m no longer able to tour and make a living, and my wonderful wife/best friend whom I just married in November will now be leaving work to help me throughout my treatment.”

He adds: “I not only feel great, but I am in great spirits, and I know this will soon be over like a bad dream. Please take care of yourselves, enjoy every single day. Life is beautiful.”

The band issued the following statement on Facebook in regard to their guitarist’s health. “Thomas has been playing guitar in Surfer Blood for nearly 6 years, but since December has been sidelined by treatment for cancer. We miss him everyday on the road but we know he is incredibly strong and we have faith in him, and in his doctors. We hope you can help with a donation of any size, and help spread the word by sharing on social media. Thank you so much for the support!”

Surfer Blood’s new album, ‘1000 Palms’, is due for release next month (May).
