Taylor Swift to release ‘very first official pop album’ in October

'1989' will be released on October 27

Taylor Swift will release ‘1989’, her “very first, documented, official pop album” in October.

The follow-up to 2012’s ‘Red’, ‘1989’ is named after the year of Swift’s birth and is preceded by a new video for the single ‘Shake It Off’, which you can watch below.

The album was announced via a live-streamed webcast in which Swift said the new record represented a “rebirth” for her.

“I’ve been working on a new album for two years,” she said. “I like to work on albums for two years because I feel like two years gives you enough time to grow and change… This is a bit of a rebirth for me.”

‘Shake It Off’ was produced by Max Martin and Shellback, who previously worked on the singles ‘Trouble’ and ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’. “Over the last few years I’ve learned a very important lesson,” she said. “We cannot control what people say about us but we can control how we react to it. We can let it get to us, make us bitter, even drive us insane, or we can shake it off.”

However, the launch was not without its critics. Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt has accused Swift of being “offensive” – despite not watching the video himself.

‘1989’ will be released on October 27.
