Watch The 1975 perform ‘The Sound’ on ‘The Tonight Show’

Band release new album today

The 1975 appeared on US TV last night to perform latest single ‘The Sound’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The band previously played the same song on Saturday Night Live, also unveiling today a video for the track.

The song features on new album ‘I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It’, released today.

The band’s new video sees them performing live in front of the neon pink lighting rig that has become a part of their stage show and confronting their biggest criticisms.

As the performance progresses strangers approach the band to get a closer look and a series of critiques aimed at the band flash up on screen. They include things such as “Terrible high-pitched vocals”, “Punch-your-TV obnoxious” and “Unconvincing emo lyrics”.

Matt Healy of The 1975 recently told NME he believes “the world needs” the band’s new album.

The frontman admits that the ambitious nature of the band’s new album could prove a stumbling block but that he couldn’t have made the album any other way. “I’m challenging people to sit through an hour and 15 minutes and 17 songs that all sound completely different from each other,” he admits. “It’s quite an emotional investment. It’s art. It’s what I want to do. The world needs this album.”
