Wedding guests were offered free tickets to the gig after the band's rehearsal could be heard while the couple took their vows
A soundcheck by The Beach Boys interrupted a wedding ceremony in Ohio last month (August 4).
Mark Kent and Jaime Diadiun were tying the knot next to the Jacobs Pavilion outdoor concert venue at Nautica in Cleveland when the veteran US band began to rehearse for their gig that night, resulting in a few bars of ‘God Only Knows’ being heard as the couple exchanged their vows.
“It was awesome and perfectly timed. ‘God Only Knows’ will likely be our official song now,” the couple told local newspaper The Plain Dealer afterwards.
After the band were told that they had interrupted the ceremony, they offered wedding guests free admission to their gig that evening and band member Bruce Johnston even invited the bride, who was still wearing her wedding dress, on stage for their encore performance of ‘Fun Fun Fun’, during which she accompanied the band on tambourine.
“I thought about trying to sing along in the mic, but it was best for everyone that I stuck to the tambourine,” the bride said. Sadly, her husband missed his new wife’s moment on stage because he was busy saying goodbye to guests in the car park outside.
The current touring line-up of The Beach Boys features Johnston and Mike Love, but not Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and David Mark, who are playing live dates as a separate three-piece after apparently being ousted from the band following their successful 50th anniversary tour last year (2012).
