Plus Pixie Lott scores her second chart-topper in the singles chart

Wartime singer Dame Vera Lynn has beaten The Beatles to the top of the official UK album chart, making her the oldest living artist ever to have a Number One record.

The 92-year-old’s hits collection, ‘We’ll Meet Again’, went in at the top of the chart having first entered three weeks ago at Number 20 before going in at Number Two last week.

“I am extremely surprised and delighted, and a big ‘thank you’ to all my fans for putting me there,” she said.

The previous record holder was Bob Dylan who, at the age of 67, was Number One with ‘Together Through Life’ back in May, according to the Official Charts Company.

Despite threatening to beat The Beatles to the top spot in the midweek charts, The Cribs‘ new album ‘Ignore The Ignorant’ went in at Number Eight.

But Jamie T came close to the top spot with his second LP, ‘Kings & Queens’, which went in at Number Two.

The Beatles dominate the rest of the album chart with their remastered back catalogue.

They have four albums in the Top 10, eleven albums in the Top 40 and sixteen albums in the Top 60, setting the record for most albums simultaneously in the Top 10 by a group.

The record was previously held by The Monkees, who had three albums in the Top 10 in 1967.

The Beatles also overtook Elvis Presley‘s record in 1977 for most albums simultaneously in the Top 60 by any act.

Meanwhile, in the singles chart, Pixie Lott has scored her second Number One single with ‘Boys And Girls’.

Elsewhere, Muse went in at Number Nine with comeback single ‘Uprising’.
