Beatles lyrics auctioned for over £90,000

Jimi Hendrix guitar also goes under the hammer

Original lyrics for The Beatles’ song ’Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’ were auctioned on yesterday (December 4) in London

The rare page of working lyrics written by Paul McCartney were sold to Bill Butler, a Texan bookstore owner, at auction house Christie’s for for $192,000 (£97, 231).

Butler also won bidding on 1968 Fender Stratocaster used by Jimi Hendrix, which he bought for $168,000 (£85,114).

He also purchased Hendrix‘s guitar strap for $10,800 (£5,470) plus an iconic photograph of Hendrix with Hendrix Experience members Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell with two topless blonde women for $5,400 (£2,733).

Other items sold at the auction included a book of handwritten lyrics by Bob Marley and ’The American Night’, a handwritten poem by Doors frontman Jim Morrison.
