THE BEATLES, as expected, went straight to the top of the US Billboard 200 this week with ‘1’, their compilation of single Number One chart toppers.

However, the biggest news is the surprise debut at number three for veteran soul diva Sade, ahead of expected big hitters Ricky Martin, The Offspring and Marilyn Manson.

The Beatles shifted 595,000 copies to grab the top spot, 150,000 sales ahead of the ‘NOW 5’ compilation. Comeback queen Sade’s ‘Lovers Rock’ meanwhile sold 370,000 copies, well ahead of the 317,000 Ricky Martin managed with ‘Sound Loaded’.

Further down the Top Ten, The Offspring glanced in at nine with ‘Conspiracy Of One’, while Marilyn Manson’s much hyped ‘Holy Wood (In The Shadow of the Valley Of Death)’ appeared, rather aptly at 13. Keith Sweat returned with ‘Didn’t See Me Coming’ at 16, two ahead of rapper Prodigy’s ‘H.N.I.C’
