The Cribs' guitarist played at El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles last night (July 13)
The Cribs‘ Johnny Marr performed the film score for Inception last night (July 13) along with Hans Zimmer and a 20-piece orchestra – and you can see video from the show by scrolling down.
Playing at El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, the former Smiths‘ guitarist took to the stage shortly after the premiere of the film, reports The Playlist.
“I enjoyed working on Inception and it’s a great soundtrack,” Marr explained in a recent interview “Hans [Zimmer] invited me and he’s someone I’ve wanted to work with for a long time. We really got into it, it’s a really good movie.”
The sci-fi thriller, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, was directed by Christopher Nolan, who also helmed The Dark Knight and Memento.
“Suddenly in the middle of the night I was sitting there writing this little tune and I go ‘woah this would sound really good if Johnny Marr played it,” Zimmer explained. “So I phoned him up and he came.”
The soundtrack was released on CD and as a digital download yesterday (July 13), while the film itself is on general release from this Friday (July 16).
This is the second movie Marr has scored this year. He has also composed the soundtrack to the forthcoming film The Big Bang.
Footage from the performance begins around the 8 minute mark of the video, lasting for just over 21 minutes.
