Justin Hawkins also tells NME that the band's new record is 'half really old school AC/DC guitar rock'
The Darkness have spoken about their third studio album and have confirmed that they have finished recording and are currently deciding the tracklisting.
The band reunited in 2011 after originally parting company in 2006 and performed a comeback slot last year’s Download Festival. The album will be their first since 2005’s ‘One Way Ticket To Hell And Back’ and is set to feature a track titled ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us’, which you can hear by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.
Speaking to NME about the band’s new album, frontman Justin Hawkins said of their progress: “We finished recording it in January and it’s now mixed. We’re currently deciding the tracklisting. People keep telling us it’s all changed since our last album and the tracklisting doesn’t matter. But we’re still old school, we put it together as two sides like a traditional vinyl album. So for our sake it’s important that we choose the right songs.”
The singer revealed that the record’s first single will be titled ‘Every Inch Of You’ and that half of the album will be “really old school AC/DC guitar rock”. He also said that the album will feature some “extreme metal”.
He said of this: “The first single is going to ‘Every Inch Of You’. Half of the record is really old school AC/DC guitar rock and some of it’s a bit more luxurious and layered, a bit like the first album. But there is also some more extreme metal on it. It’s a classic The Darkness album really. We always did take that approach but on the last record we just carried on adding more and more stuff to everything. Nobody stopped us and we just got carried away I think.”
Asked when the album would emerge, the Hawkins said: “We’re hoping to release it before the tour dates [supporting] Lady Gaga. All depending on the artwork we are hoping to release it in either June or July.”
The Darkness will be on tour throughout the summer and have confirmed a series of festival appearances including a spot at the Isle Of Wight festival.
