The Flaming Lips cover The Beatles and David Bowie at Tibet House Benefit – watch

Patti Smith, Miley Cyrus, Debbie Harry and others also perform Smith's 'People Have the Power'

The Flaming Lips and Julianna Barwick appeared at the annual Tibet House Benefit Concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall on Thursday night (March 5), performing covers of The Beatles’ ‘She’s Leaving Home’ and David Bowie’s ‘Warszawa’.

As reported by The Future Heart via Pitchfork, Patti Smith also performed at the show, leading a rendition of her song ‘People Have the Power’ alongside an all-star line-up that included Debbie Harry, Dev Hynes, Philip Glass and Miley Cyrus. Scroll down to view footage of the gig.

Barwick appeared on The Flaming Lips’ studio rendition of ‘She’s Leaving Home’, which was recorded last year as part of ‘With A Little Help From My Fwends’, the band’s remake of The Beatles’ album ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’. Cyrus – who attended last night’s show with the band – also appeared on two of the LP’s tracks, ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ and ‘A Day In The Life’.

Also last year, The Lips collaborated on a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ with Yoko Ono as part of Amazon Prime’s ‘All Is Bright’ Christmas album. The band previously worked with Ono on another Christmas song in 2007, ‘Atlas Eets Christmas’.

The Tibet House Benefit Concert takes place each year in support of the non-profit educational institution which works to preserve and celebrate Tibetan culture.
