The band were joined by Sean Lennon for the performance

The Flaming Lips joined forces with John Lennon’s son, Sean Lennon, last night (February 6) to perform their cover of The Beatles ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ on The Late Show With David Letterman.

Click above to watch the typically psychedelic performance, which followed Beatles songs from Broken Bells and Sting on the US chat show earlier in the week, as part of the show’s weeklong tribute to the Fab Four, and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic band’s first performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Broken Bells performed ‘And I Love Her’ and Sting played ‘Drive My Car’.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr recently reunited on stage at a recording of The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles. The show was recorded on January 27, one day after this year’s Grammy Awards, and will be aired on US television on February 9, exactly 50 years after the Beatles made their US television debut.
